Monroe County jury convicts former Trauma Star division chief on 10 counts

A Monroe County jury found former Monroe County Fire Rescue EMS and Trauma Star Division Chief Andrea Arlene Thompson guilty on 10 criminal charges following a six-day trial that concluded Sept. 30, 2026. The convictions relate to conduct that arose during a 2022 investigation into missing contr substance from the county’s Trauma Star air ambulance program. Monroe County Sheriff’s Office detectives opened the 2022 inquiry after discrepancies were identified in controlled substance accountability within the Trauma Star program. The subsequent probe, together with an internal Trauma Star audit conducted by the an undisclosed area, led to a Monroe County grand jury indictment in August 2024. The case proceeded to trial before Circuit Judge Mark Jones; the jury deliberated about three hours before returning guilty verdicts. The jury convicted Thompson of two counts of official misconduct, three counts of giving false information to law enforcement during an investigation, two counts of attempted tampering with physical evidence, and three counts of tampering with a witness. Prosecutors presented allegations that Thompson’s actions during the investigation and her interactions with investigators, evidence, and witnesses were improper; the listed convictions are the jury’s findings on those charges. The State Attorney’s Office prosecuted the matter, with Major Crimes Assistant State Attorney Colleen Dunne handling the case through grand jury and trial stages. Chief Assistant State Attorney Joseph Mansfield publicly credited MCSO detectives and cooperating witnesses for their roles in bringing the case to trial. Thompson is scheduled to appear for sentencing before Circuit Judge Mark Jones on Oct. 29, 2026, at 2 p.m.
