Monroe County corrections officer arrested in Key West on aggravated stalking charge
A Monroe County Sheriff’s Office corrections officer was arrested in Key West early Friday morning on a felony aggravated stalking charge, authorities said. The officer was booked into jail after Key West police took him into custody shortly before 1 a.m., according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff’s investigators say the defendant, identified by the agency, repeatedly called and texted his ex-girlfriend. When she did not respond, investigators allege he went to her residence, repeatedly knocked on the door and looked through the home’s windows. The woman reported fearing for her safety and for her two adult chldren, who were inside at the time, and called 911 for help. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says the employee was still on probationary status after being hired in mid-December and has since been terminated from his position. The agency described the conduct as unacceptable for any employee and said it took immediate personnel action following the arrest. At this time, the reported allegations — repeated unwanted contact, an alleged presence at the home, the victim’s distress, the subsequent arrest and the termination of employment — are those documented by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and Key West police. The jail booking and felony aggravated stalking charge were reported by the Sheriff’s Office as the current case status. All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent an undisclosed area.
