Woman arrested after cosmetic injections left sisters with deep abscesses and permanent scarring

Two sisters went to a northwest Miami‑Dade beauty spa for cosmetic injections and later developed severe complications, police say. Authorities allege 33‑year‑old Latonya Starks, who promoted herself online as a medical doctor and operated a Miami spa, injected both women in the hips and buttocks with an unknown substance; investigators say she is not a licensed physician and is a convicted felon in Georgia. One sister went to urgent care where an MRI reportedly showed abscesses too deep to fully drain, and a surgeon later drained pus, blood and other fluids; both women were left with permanent scars and bumps, and one lost her job and faces thousands in medical bills. Starks was arrested and is charged with, among other counts, practicing as a health care professional without a license; the case remains under investigation and prosecutors will determine formal filings next. All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
