Widow sues Amazon, carrier and pilots after Miami cargo jet crash that kll five
The widow of a man kll when an Amazon cargo jet ran off a runway and struck a van and SUV in Miami filed a wrongful-death lawsuit Wednesday in Miami-Dade county, alleging multiple failures led to the Sunday crash. Yaraisi Santiso Morejon names Amazon, cargo carrier 21 Air, the two pilots — Jaime Felipe Silva Molina and Joseph Carroll — and others, alleging pilot error during a high-speed, tailwind-affected landing, inadequate training and fitness oversight, and deployment of a 32-year-old aircraft whose braking and thrust-reverser systems are under NTSB investigation. Five people in the van were kll and two survived; five other people were injured, three critically. The suit seeks damages in excess of $50,000; investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board continue to probe the cause, and Amazon said its aircraft are operated and maintained by FAA-certificated carriers under approved programs.
