West Palm Beach minister shot after man allegedly targeted wrong sister; suspect extradited
A West Palm Beach man was died after a gunman allegedly opened fire on a vehicle outside a residence on the night of Sept. 27 in West Palm Beach. The victim, identified in the arrest affidavit as Akeem Moore, a minister at a local church, was driven to West Palm Beach Fire Station No. 5 and taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he later died.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Moore and his girlfriend returned to her home around midnight and were sitting in Moore’s white Ford Fusion when a man later identified as Hugh Milner began pounding on the passenger-side window and allegedly fired into the car. The affidavit states Moore reversed, was shot as he tried to leave, then drove several blocks to the fire station while calling police. Investigators recovered four spent shell casings, a projectile, vehicle damage and a large amount of blood on the driver’s seatback.
West Palm Beach Police say Milner was later arrested after investigators used license-plate reader data to trace his vehicle’s path into Broward County. The affidavit reports that the girlfriend identified Milner from a police photo and that text messages were allegedly sent from Milner to another woman shortly before the shooting. Milner has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle and was extradited from Broward County.
Court records show Milner appeared in a West Palm Beach courtroom and a judge ordered he be held without bond. Allegations above are drawn from the arrest affidavit and police statements; the case remains in the charging and court process.
