West Palm Beach man convicted in deadly May 2023 SUV chase and shooting

A jury in Palm Beach County found Quinton Henderson Jr., 35, guilty of first-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder in connection with a May 9, 2023, vehicle chase and shooting in suburban West Palm Beach. The State Attorney’s Office announced the verdict on Oct. 1; Henderson is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 28.

According to the prosecutor’s account, at about 12:30 a.m. on May 9, 2023, Henderson was driving a BMW SUV with two armed companions when the vehicle pulled alongside a Volkswagen SUV and someone in the BMW opened fire. The Volkswagen’s occupants reported being shot at, which led to a pursuit along streets near Westgate Avenue and North Congress Avenue in West Palm Beach.

The State Attorney’s Office says the chase ended after the BMW struck a cement pole and an electrical box. Surveillance video and the sheriff’s office report described a man in the BMW’s front passenger area hanging out of the window who was ejected when the vehicle crashed; he later died at the scene. Deputies and detectives responded to 911 calls reporting two SUVs driving and shooting at each other.

Agency filings and court testimony provided the basis for the jury’s verdict. The prosecutor presented the allegation that Henderson drove the BMW during the shooting; the jury found him guilty on the charged counts. A co-defendant previously charged in the case was acquitted at trial on April 24, 2024, of murder and attempted murder counts. Prosecutors will seek sentencing on the scheduled Oct. 28 date.

All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
