A trial is underway in Waco for Brendon Le Osha Riggs, who is charged with first-degree felony aggravated robbery in connection with a September 2021 shooting that left 21-year-old Kaden Quinn Hitchcock dead at his residence in the Wagon Wheel Circle.

Court records and filings say Riggs was initially charged with capital murder alongside two others; those co-defendants were no-billed by a grand jury earlier in the case. Riggs spent 619 days in the McLennan County Jail before the murder charge was dismissed in November 2022 pending further investigation and DNA analysis.

An indictment returned in February 2024 refiled the aggravated robbery count; Riggs has remained jailed for 551 days awaiting resolution. One co-defendant has pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery and received a 10-year sentence and is expected to testify under a plea agreement. Statements in court filings describe conflicting accounts about who fired the shot; those are allegations in the record, not adjudicated findings.

Jury selection and testimony are underway in 54th State District Court, with prosecutors and defense attorneys presenting evidence related to the September 2021 incident.

All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
