Vigil held after fatal hit-and-run near Gwen Cherry Park in Gladeview
A chld who had been struck by a vehicle in September near 177 Street and an adjacent area died after being taken to a hospital; her teenage brother, who was with her on an e-bike, survived and was treated at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies searched for the driver in the days after the crash and on Sunday reported locating a Nissan Versa they suspect was involved. Family and friends gathered Monday night at Gwen Cherry Park in Gladeview, holding a candlelight vigil and leaving balloons to remember the chld and her participation in a local youth cheer program. Deputies continue to investigate the crash and the circumstances surrounding the vehicle they say they found. All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
