Two women arrested on chld abuse charges after young chldren found running in North Miami
A North Miami officer arrested two women Wednesday after a Miami‑Dade County Public Schools officer spotted a 7-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy running alone near Northeast Seventh Avenue and Northeast 132nd Street at about 6:29 p.m. According to police, the chldren told officers they had been forced outside to play and the apartment door was locked; after becoming tired and hungry they went to a nearby Publix but were unable to get food. North Miami police arrested LaToya Garland, 40, and Mikequisha Gordan, 36, on chld abuse charges following the encounter. No injuries were reported; investigators say the department continues to probe the incident. All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
