Two teens charged as adults in Boynton Beach fatal shooting, suspects held in Palm Beach County Jail

Two 17-year-olds have been charged as adults in the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old in Boynton Beach on Aug. 8. The victim died from gunshot injuries after officers responded to a shooting in the area of Northwest Eighth Avenue, according to Boynton Beach police. Investigators say multiple rounds were fired from a vehicle that was later found unoccupied.

Authorities identified two juvenile suspects — one from Lantana and one from Boynton Beach — who were moved from juvenile detention into the Palm Beach County Jail. Both were charged with first-degree murder and a weapons offense; each was ordered held without bond on the murder charge and with a $50,000 bond on the weapons charge. Bookings occurred in the jail early and later on the same Friday, and the males were ordered not to have contact with the victim’s family.

Police say detectives used license plate reader data to identify a suspect vehicle and located it in the area of Quantum Lakes Drive. A second suspect vehicle, multiple search warrants and assistance from a SWAT team were used during the preliminary investigation. Delray Beach Police provided information about an ankle monitor tracked near the homicide scene; detectives say one suspect’s ankle monitor was registered to him and that the other suspect cut off his monitor.

Investigators have not released a motive. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office separately arrested five men in connection with a disturbance at an intersection after a funeral for the victim; those arrests are reported as related to that subsequent incident. Case status: suspects in custody and facing adult charges; investigation remains active.

All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
