Two-state fugitive arrested in Dover after deputies spot concealed weapons and a taped handcuff key

Hillsborough County deputies arrested 42-year-old Jonathan Terry in Dover after locating him hiding under a shed overhang and observing him discard a weapon. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says the Aviation Unit located Terry at about 6:37 p.m. on October 1, 2026, and kept visual while deputies moved in on the ground.

According to the Sheriff's Office chronology, deputies saw Terry reach into his clothing and toss a pair of brass knuckles under a nearby vehicle as they approached. Deputies took him into custody and conducted a search that uncovered a handcuff key taped inside his underwear.

The agency reports Terry is a convicted felon wanted on active fugitive warrants from Kentucky and Indiana: an active warrant in Kentucky for violating probation on a controlled-substance possession charge and a four-year-old warrant from Indiana for failure to appear on a Methamp possession charge. The Sheriff’s Office says Terry now faces local charges of Felon Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Possession of a Concealed Handcuff Key, in addition to the out-of-state warrants.

The investigation remains ongoing and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Public Affairs Office is handling updates. Sheriff Chad Chronister is quoted in the release regarding the arrest.

All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
