Two men detained in Doral after deputies say they used stolen benefits to buy bulk Spam, coffee and detergent

Miami-Dade deputies surveilling a Sam’s Club in Doral detained two men Monday after authorities say they used stolen benefits card information to pay for a $2,704.59 purchase. Deputies allege the pair bought 70 bulk cans of Spam (nearly $1,800), 18 cans of Café Bustelo (about $370), $500 worth of Tide detergent, and a can of Members Mark cashews, and paid at self-checkout using data from 10 NationsBenefits accounts. Investigators said one man had six debit cards re-encoded with stolen NationsBenefits information and the other had four; both were identified as living together in Hallandale Beach. Deputies say each man faces a dozen felony charges and were detained after leaving the store. All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
