Two arrested after Venice home invasion; shots fired inside residence, no injuries

Venice police say two men entered a home off Laurel Road East in Venice, Florida, and gunfire occurred inside the residence; the homeowner was not harmed. Officers responded to the scene around 11 p.m. on Wednesday after the report of an active incident.

According to the Venice Police Department, the two male suspects forced entry and shots were fired inside the house. The intruders fled on foot; while running, one of the men took a firearm that belonged to the homeowner. Police say no one was struck by gunfire during the incident.

Venice officers established a perimeter and, with assistance from a Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office K-9 team, tracked and located both suspects. The K-9 later recovered the stolen firearm nearby, and both men were taken into custody without further incident. Authorities transported the suspects to the Sarasota County Jail for booking.

The Venice Police Department has not released the suspects’ names, ages, or formal charges. Police described the scene as contained and said there is no continuing danger to the neighborhood. The investigation remains active and is being handled by Venice police with assistance from Sarasota County Sheriff’s personnel.
