Troopers arrest Lehigh Acres driver after 124 mph radar reading on Daniels Parkway
Florida Highway Patrol troopers stopped a Lehigh Acres driver after observing a sedan traveling at a high rate of speed on Daniels Parkway near Timber Creek Drive. Troopers reported the vehicle was passing several other cars and making rapid lane changes; radar recorded the sedan at 124 mph. The vehicle slowed when traffic ahead forced it to reduce speed and troopers conducted a traffic stop.
The driver was identified by authorities as a 21-year-old Michael Joseph Rocco Jr. Troopers say Rocco was arrested at the scene and an inventory of the vehicle — a Honda Civic — turned up a bottle of nitrous oxide in the trunk. Troopers reported the Honda also had a modified exhaust. The agency noted nitrous oxide can be used to increase a vehicle’s power and performance.
According to the arrest report, Rocco told deputies he had been “very dumb” and that he was “just listening to music,” and said he was returning from jiu-jitsu practice. The Florida Highway Patrol reported Rocco faces charges of super speeding and reckless driving.
At this time the agency’s report documents the stop, the vehicle equipment findings, and the charges; no further case disposition was provided in the report supplied to reporters.
