Trail-maintenance gear stolen from job boxes at Caloosahatchee Regional Park

Volunteers for a volunteer trail maintenance group discovered that more than half of their commercial landscaping equipment had been stolen from job boxes near the mountain bike trails at Caloosahatchee Regional Park in Lee County. The loss was found when volunteers arrived to begin scheduled trail work and opened the job boxes.

According to the nonprofit’s leadership and volunteers, the stolen items included a chainsaw and two motors among other commercial tools used to clear grass and palm fronds and keep trails rideable. The group had stored the equipment in job boxes placed near the bike trails for use during regular maintenance shifts.

Members of the mountain biking community and local volunteers described the theft as a setback for trail upkeep and community activities, and they organized support that raised more than $4,000 toward replacing the stolen equipment. Volunteers said the work the group performs is important to maintain trail conditions and community engagement around the park.

Lee County deputies are continuing an active search for the person responsible for the theft, and that investigation is the current status of the case as reported. No arrests, charges, or recovered items are documented in the available account.
