Teton Pass driver certification opens ahead of October 1 launch

Wyoming’s WY22 SAFE PASS program is scheduled to begin October 1, with advance self-certification available starting September 21. The program covers travel across Teton Pass on Wyoming Highway 22.

The certification requirement applies to drivers of recreational vehicles, vehicles towing trailers, and vehicles with a gross vehicle weight combination or rating above 10,000 pounds. Participants review mountain-driving safety material and receive a certification letter valid for one year.

Existing road restrictions remain in place, including the pass’s 60,000-pound limit and seasonal restrictions. Drivers in the covered categories who cannot complete certification will need another route. Travelers should check current official requirements before departure.
