Suspected carjacking leads to pursuit, PIT stop in northwest Miami-Dade
A possible carjacking unfolded in northwest Miami-Dade after Hialeah police reported a vehicle was taken from a hospital parking lot and later disabled during a pursuit. Hialeah police said the incident began in the parking area of Palmetto Hospital on West 68th Street after deputies initially brought a man to the hospital under a Baker Act and the man then fled shortly after arriving. According to Hialeah police, once in the parking lot the suspect approached a person exiting a vehicle, forced himself into that vehicle and fled the scene. Investigators located the vehicle later in northwest Miami‑Dade, prompting a multi‑agency response. Video from above the scene showed numerous Miami‑Dade Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol vehicles involved in the pursuit. Law enforcement were able to perform a PIT maneuver that disabled the vehicle, and the driver was taken into custody, officials said. Agencies have described the event as a possible carjacking; those assertions are attributed to Hialeah police and the agencies involved and have not been independently adjudicated in court in the available account. No further details about charges, injuries, or additional suspects were released in the initial reports. Investigating agencies have not provided a public status update or released documentation on any subsequent filings at this time. All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
