A man wanted in an East Harris County shooting was located in the Waco area and is being held in the McLennan County Jail, records show. The arrest follows a Baytown incident investigators say left two people with gunshot wounds.

Deputies responded Monday to a shooting on North Redell Road and found a 53-year-old man dead at the scene and a 19-year-old woman critically injured and flown by helicopter to a hospital. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez identified the suspect as the woman’s 22-year-old former boyfriend.

Sheriff’s investigators say the case involves intimate partner violence. Authorities allege the suspect acted out of anger over the end of the relationship; he was first charged with aggravated assault and later with murder in the father’s death.

The suspect was located with assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force and automated license plate readers. He remains held in McLennan County pending extradition and the investigation is ongoing.

All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
