Student arrested after roommate finds hidden camera in South Miami bedroom
A University of Miami student was arrested after police say a hidden camera was found inside his roommate’s bedroom in South Miami. According to the arrest report, the roommate discovered the device on Sept. 12 inside a compartment of his nightstand and reported not having given anyone permission to place a recording device in the room. Per the report, the roommate confronted the suspected recorder, then left for classes. While away, he connected the device to power and examined the stored files. Investigators say the device held about 49 video files, several corrupted; usable files reportedly included multiple recordings of the roommate made without his knowledge. Other videos allegedly showed the suspect operating and testing the same camera. Police say the suspect—identified in the report as a 21-year-old University of Miami student—was questioned a second time, admitted ownership of the device and that he had placed it in the roommate’s bedroom, and was later located in Coral Gables. The report states he was taken to the South Miami Police Department, then transported to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and charged with video voyeurism and burglary of an unoccupied structure. At bond court, a judge found probable cause and set bond at $3,500. These facts are drawn from the police arrest report and related booking information; allegations are reported as described by law enforcement and the charging authority. All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
