Single-vehicle collision into box truck on I-95 North in Martin County leaves one dead
A fatal crash on Interstate 95 North in Martin County shut down all northbound lanes for several hours after a sedan struck the rear of a box truck. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported the collision occurred around 3:40 a.m. Monday at mile marker 91, involving a Honda Civic and a Hino box truck.
FHP said both vehicles were traveling northbound when the Honda collided with the rear of the box truck in the outside lane. The sedan lodged beneath the back of the tractor-trailer and became engulfed in flames. Despite lifesaving efforts, the driver of the Honda was pronounced deceased at the scene; FHP has not identified that driver.
The driver of the Hino box truck was not injured, according to FHP. State troopers closed all northbound lanes of I-95 for crash investigation and clearance; the roadway remained closed for more than seven hours and reopened just before 11 a.m. Monday.
FHP is the investigating agency and has provided the primary account of the sequence of events and injuries. At this time, no additional details about contributing factors, charges, or identifications have been released by the agency. Motorists should expect that FHP will release further information when it is documented by investigators.
