Runway overrun at MIA kll five, forces major delays and cancellations

A Boeing 767 cargo plane overran a runway at Miami International Airport around 2 p.m. Sunday, plowing across a road used by warehouse workers and nearby businesses and striking several vehicles in a parking lot along Northwest 67th Avenue between Northwest 25th Street and Northwest 36th Street. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue launched search-and-rescue efforts for the pilot and co-pilot trapped on the aircraft and for victims trapped in vehicles; officials say five people were kll and five others injured. The Federal Aviation Administration and airport authorities are investigating; airport officials reported two of four runways are open, and FlightAware recorded 129 domestic delays and 65 cancellations at MIA Monday morning. Aviation personnel described the approach as unstable and said a go-around is the standard procedure in such situations; airport operations remain limited as the probe continues.
