Broward County, Florida — An attempted armed home-invasion robbery at an Airbnb in Fort Lauderdale ended when a renter shot one of the intruders, police said.

The encounter occurred Thursday evening at a residence in the Northwest 19th Avenue. Fort Lauderdale Police say a man armed with a gun entered the Airbnb while attempting a robbery.

An altercation unfolded inside and the renter fired at the intruder. The wounded suspect fled on foot but was located nearby by officers suffering gunshot wounds to his upper torso and was taken to a local hospital in critical but stable condition after surgery.

Police identified the wounded man as 18-year-old Dareon Pubien and said he is expected to face charges of attempted murder and home invasion with a firearm. Investigators also arrested a second person, 25-year-old Sean Thompson, who is believed to be an accomplice and faces the same charges, according to the agency.

Detectives are continuing the probe into the shooting and are treating the incident as an act of self-defense while they gather additional evidence. The reported timeline, injuries, arrests, and the two named suspects are based on the agency’s public statements.

No other victims or injuries were reported by police at the scene. At this time the case remains under active investigation by Fort Lauderdale Police.

No convictions, trial dates, or charging decisions beyond the agency’s statements have been documented in the public account provided by police.
