Real Estate Developer Accused of DUI Manslaughter Charged in Deadly Crash
A Coral Gables real estate developer, Allen Matis, 67, has been ordered held without bond by a judge after being charged with DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide for a June 24 crash that kll an 82-year-old senior. The crash occurred in an undisclosed area of southwest Miami-Dade. Matis was found driving under the influence in his Cadillac Lyriq SUV and crashed into the home of Henri Bezy, 82, who was asleep inside. Bezy was pronounced dead at the scene. Surveillance footage showed Matis had been drinking at the Ritz-Carlton in Coconut Grove prior to the crash. Toxicology results indicated Matis' blood alcohol content was over three times the legal limit. Matis was arrested on Wednesday and is an undisclosed area on Monday. His 88-year-old sister, Clare Bezy, also inside the home at the time, provided testimony about her brother's condition. All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
