Pompano Beach arrest: K-9 deployed, suspect bitten during burglary response
Broward County, Florida — Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies deployed a K-9 to detain a man in Pompano Beach after responding to a reported armed burglary, and video recorded by a witness shows the K-9 biting the person identified in police reports as Fricost Jerome.
The property manager told deputies the man entered a maintenance shed and took a toolbox; she then observed a box cutter among the items and called 911. Surveillance video from the clubhouse area was shared with authorities and a witness later captured the K-9 bite during the arrest.
According to an arrest report summarized by the agency, deputies say Jerome did not follow commands before they placed him into custody. The Broward Sheriff’s Office said district deputies, K-9 and Aviation were requested to respond to a report of an armed robbery in progress and that agency policy requires medical treatment for suspects bitten by K-9s, reporting to supervisors, and documentation for administrative review.
Jerome faces counts including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, armed burglary and resisting arrest without violence. Family members have told reporters they believe Jerome has mental-health challenges and questioned the use of the K-9; court records cited by the family indicate a 2023 arrest that a judge later dismissed in 2026 after finding the defendant incompetent because of mental illness.
The sheriff’s office statement frames the K-9 deployment as part of a response to an alleged armed robbery; the agency also noted post-incident medical and administrative procedures are followed. As of the latest agency summary, the case remains an active criminal matter with charges filed and administrative review of force use documented by the sheriff’s office.
