Miami-Dade law enforcement detained an individual at Miami International Airport after reports of sh0ts fired prompted a large response. Deputies from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) went to the airport in the afternoon and took one person into custody; MDSO reported there was no active shooter, no ongoing threat to the public and no reported injuries. Airport officials likewise said passengers and employees were safe. According to MDSO, deputies responded to the airport at approximately 4:05 p.m. following calls about sh0ts fired and detained an individual. Around 4:30 p.m., aerial images showed a significant law enforcement presence outside the terminal, with multiple MDSO vehicles along the roadway and several deputies outside their vehicles. Authorities have not released further details about the person taken into custody or what specifically led to the reports of sh0ts fired. Miami International Airport later said the departure level and roadway lanes had fully reopened and operations were returning to normal. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate. At this time the agency has provided the facts above; additional information about allegations, weapons, injuries or charges has not been released by investigators.
