Pedestrian died on Broward Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale; driver hospitalized with minor injuries

Broward County, Florida — A pedestrian was struck and died Monday morning on West Broward Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, Fort Lauderdale Police say.

The adult male was struck in the roadway and pronounced dead at the scene. Police later identified him as 59-year-old Richard R.

According to authorities, the collision occurred along the West Broward Boulevard just east of Interstate 95. Surveillance footage from a nearby gas station shows the man walking across the road when a vehicle appears to drive over a median and directly into him.

Fort Lauderdale Police say the driver remained at the scene and was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Investigators are treating the event as a traffic homicide and have an active investigation underway; officials have not released additional details about charges or vehicle occupants.

At this time, the factual record from police is limited to the location, identity of the deceased, the surveillance account of how the collision occurred, and the driver’s hospitalization for minor injuries. The department continues to investigate and has not released information on contributing factors such as speed, impairment, lighting conditions, or traffic control at the scene.
