Parole granted to ex-Dallas officer in 2018 death of Botham Jean

Former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger was approved for parole by the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles on Oct. 1. The Board said she had no documented pattern of violence while incarcerated and had completed required programs.
Guyger shot Botham Jean inside his South Side Flats apartment on Sept. 6, 2018. A Dallas County jury convicted her of murder on Oct. 1, 2019 and sentenced her to 10 years in prison; she was fired from the Dallas Police Department after the arrest.
Sources noted she had served seven years of that sentence. Before release she will be given parole conditions and assigned a parole officer.
A civil judgment in Nov. 2024 found Guyger liable and ordered $98.65 million to Jean’s family.
