Paralyzed UM student trains for New York City Marathon after life-changing rideshare crash

A 20-year-old University of Miami student who was paralyzed from the waist down in a June 2025 rideshare crash is rebuilding strength at a local rehabilitation center and is now preparing to run the New York City Marathon. The crash, which involved the student’s sister, left her with a spinal cord injury; she was airlifted from the scene, spent six days in intensive care and more than five weeks in the hospital and at Lynn Rehabilitation Center. Hospital and rehab staff helped her relearn daily skills and begin physical training, including Pilates and upper-body work. She began half-marathon training the day before the crash and now plans to continue training toward the NYC Marathon while remaining in ongoing rehabilitation.
