Palm City barricade ends with man booked on felony domestic-assault charge
An armed barricade standoff at a Palm City residence ended with a man booked into the Martin County Jail, according to sheriff’s office information and booking records. Deputies responded after reports of shots fired outside the home and calls indicating a domestic-related aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The sheriff’s office says deputies were called to a residence on Southwest Bessey Creek Trail near Murphy Road. Around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, deputies described the subject as armed and dangerous and contained him inside the home. Road patrol, detectives, the SWAT Team and the Hostage Negotiation Team were dispatched to the scene and the agency asked people to avoid the area.
Booking records identify the suspect as Devin Abbey, 38, and list three charges: aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to cause death (domestic) — third-degree felony; battery, touch or strike (domestic) — first-degree misdemeanor; and use of a firearm under the influence of alcohol — second-degree misdemeanor. Total bond was set at $12,500.
Agency statements attribute the alleged conduct to the sheriff’s office; those allegations remain charges on the booking record. The sheriff’s office has not provided a public account detailing how the standoff was resolved or the specific sequence that led to the booking.
Current documented status: the individual was booked and charged, bond was set, and the sheriff’s office had not issued further public updates about the resolution.
