Over a dozen ducks found dead at Pompano Beach pond; BSO investigating
Broward County, Florida — Law enforcement in Pompano Beach are investigating after deputies discovered more than a dozen dead ducks at a neighborhood pond.
Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded Friday morning to the area of Cypress Road and located the deceased waterfowl in and around the pond. According to BSO, deputies arrived at about 8 a.m. and found the bodies of over a dozen ducks.
Investigators reported no visible signs of trauma on the animals at the scene. BSO’s Special Victims Unit has taken the lead on the inquiry and is coordinating follow-up work.
Agency personnel indicated that necropsies will be performed to determine the cause of death; those laboratory results will be needed to establish whether illness, environmental contamination, or another cause is responsible. At this stage, the absence of external injuries is an observation, not a determination of cause.
BSO is collecting the animals and evidence from the scene and has not released any findings from the necropsies or announced suspect information. Residents concerned about wildlife health in the area are advised to await official results and follow any guidance BSO or local environmental agencies provide once analyses are complete.
