On-duty FDLE agent fires during altercation near southwest Miami-Dade middle school, person kll
A Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office investigation is underway after an on-duty Florida Department of Law Enforcement agent fired his weapon Thursday morning in southwest Miami-Dade County, striking a person who was later pronounced dead at the scene by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. Deputies say the FDLE agent was inside his vehicle when someone began striking the car window; the agent exited the vehicle and the two immediately became involved in a physical altercation during which the agent was reportedly slammed to the ground and the other person climbed on top of him. Video obtained by investigators shows the men scuffling near Jorge Mas Canosa Middle School and captures what sounds like a gunshot; the nearby school was placed on a temporary lockdown that has since been lifted. The FDLE agent has been placed on administrative leave and the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation; no charges have been announced. All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
