NTSB interviews pilots after Miami cargo jet ran off runway, kll five
National Transportation Safety Board investigators interviewed the pilots Wednesday about a Boeing 767 that ran off the runway at Miami International Airport and crashed into a van, kll five people. Both the pilot, 55, and the 37-year-old first officer were hospitalized after the landing but have since been released; two other people remain in critical condition and a third is stable. Officials said cellphone video shows one pilot exiting a door near the cockpit as the burning plane came to rest. NTSB officials reported the captain had about 7,145 flight hours and the first officer about 2,655 hours; flight data indicates the crew appeared to abort an unsteady landing, briefly attempt a go-around, then try to stop the aircraft. Investigators said they want the pilots’ accounts before releasing a readout of the cockpit voice recorder and will continue the formal probe.
