North Collier Fire prepares to place its first ocean-rescue tower in service
North Collier Fire Control and Rescue District plans to dedicate Ocean Rescue Tower 29 at Vanderbilt Beach on Friday morning, marking the district’s first permanent ocean-rescue tower on a Naples-area beach.
The ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. District officials listed Board Chairman Christopher Lombardo, Fire Chief Eloy Ricardo and Eagle Scout candidate Christian Woodward among the expected participants. Woodward is scheduled to be recognized for supporting the district’s ocean-rescue initiative.
North Collier Fire began deploying members of its lifeguard program at Vanderbilt Beach in July. The tower will give responders an elevated location for monitoring water conditions, identifying swimmers who may need help and coordinating an emergency response.
The district said shuttle transportation will be available for the ceremony. County Crime Watch has omitted the event’s exact street locations while retaining Vanderbilt Beach as the public location.
