Mother in Coral Springs Reflects 25 Years After Son Was kll in Sept. 11 Attacks

In the days after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, local residents learned several hijackers had lived and trained in South Florida, including a unit on Jackson Street in Hollywood that was later torn down by a developer 16 years ago. Investigators later found two of the hijackers had taken flight-simulator lessons at Opa-Locka Airport and dined at Shuckum’s on Young Circle the night before the attacks that kll nearly 3,000 people. A Coral Springs mother says she lost her youngest son in the attacks; she still lives in the same home and keeps a framed flag bearing victims’ names and a quilted pillow with his photo as reminders. She says gestures from strangers and family support helped her move forward while the loss remains a permanent part of her life.
