Miami man arrested in connection with 2024 Birmingham homicide; extradition pending
A Miami arrest was made Monday in a 2024 Birmingham homicide after investigators say the suspect was identified shortly after the victim went missing during a Fourth of July visit. The missing person was reported July 4, 2024; surveillance footage reportedly showed him walking near 4th Avenue North, and officers found his clothing nearby. On July 6, 2024, investigators discovered the victim’s body in a shed about a block from the family home; the death was ruled a homicide and officials said strangulation was the apparent cause. Days after the body was found, investigators named Julian Taylor Morris as a person of interest and say he stopped cooperating with detectives; Morris, 33, was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in Miami and is being held without bond at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center pending extradition to Alabama. All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
