Miami International Airport sees mounting delays after cargo plane overshoots runway, five dead

A cargo plane overshot a runway at Miami International Airport and crashed, kll five people and injuring five others, officials said. All runways were briefly shut and a ground stop was imposed while Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews extinguished a post-crash fire and tended to the injured; the ground stop has been lifted and two of the airport’s four runways have reopened. Flight delays and cancellations have continued to grow, with some passengers reporting no available flights until later in the week, long rebooking lines, and crowded terminals where people are sleeping on benches and floors; airport staff distributed bottled water. American Airlines said it is waiving some fees for travelers to, from or through Miami as federal investigators work to determine what led to the crash.
