Miami doctor and clinic cited in congressional probe of alleged birth-tourism marketing

A U.S. House task force on Tuesday examined a Miami physician and his business as part of an investigation into whether maternity services are being marketed to foreign expectant mothers to obtain U.S. citizenship for their chldren. The House Oversight Committee said the doctor’s Miami clinic and four other U.S. clinics are under investigation and presented paperwork that it said showed the company advertised more than 2,000 deliveries by international patients and gave guidance on obtaining U.S. health insurance and housing. The business’s website and social pages appear to have been taken offline ahead of the hearing. The committee will continue its review of the clinics and materials presented as lawmakers pursue potential legal and policy responses.
