Miami-area officials approve marketing for Grand Theft Auto VI amid local pushback

Promotion for the new Grand Theft Auto game, which includes depictions of violence and substance use, has already appeared in the area and some residents say they're eager to play a title modeled on a Miami-like setting. Last week Miami Beach's city commission voted to begin a marketing campaign for the game, with Commissioner David Suarez the lone dissent, saying the campaign risks re-associating the city with spring-break chaos and that details are insufficient; he played game footage during the meeting. Separately, Miami commissioners voted to allow the game's developer to pay for permits enabling larger-than-usual private banners; Commissioner Christine King said the banners will not display graphic content and that no City of Miami assets will be used for promotion. No arrests, injuries, or damage were reported in connection with the marketing decisions. What happens next is implementation of the approved marketing steps by the respective cities. All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
