Marked Broward Sheriff’s patrol car stolen; deputy’s rifle recovered secured inside cruiser

Broward County, Florida — A marked Broward Sheriff’s Office patrol car was stolen from a public parking lot near the agency’s Fort Lauderdale headquarters during a Tuesday-night incident.

Deputies later located and recovered the vehicle in St. Lucie County, and an arrest report identifies the suspect as Shannon Marie Dillon, 42, who was taken into custody in connection with the theft. According to the arrest report and agency statements, deputies discovered a department-issued rifle inside the recovered cruiser.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office says the rifle was found secured in the vehicle and that the suspect had not accessed it. The report further states Dillon was in possession of a black law enforcement duty bag containing her personal items and two boxes of ammunition when arrested.

Deputy Nicholas Marciante is identified as the on-duty deputy whose marked Dodge Charger was taken. Whether the cruiser was left unlocked or running when it was taken is under review.

The agency has opened an internal affairs investigation to determine if any policy was violated surrounding the vehicle’s security and the circumstances of the theft. At this time the documented facts are the vehicle’s theft, its recovery in St. Lucie County with a secured department rifle inside, the arrest report details about the suspect’s belongings, and the initiation of an internal affairs probe.

No additional charges, court outcomes, injuries, or agency findings have been documented in the supplied material.

All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
