Margate man convicted in 2023 murder-for-hire plot that died an airplane mechanic

Broward County, Florida — A federal jury has convicted a Margate man for his role in a 2023 murder-for-hire plot that resulted in the death of an airplane mechanic who worked at local airports, authorities said.

The mechanic disappeared in November 2023; his decomposed body was later recovered in the Florida Everglades with a gunshot wound to the head, according to prosecutors. Federal filings and the U.S. Attorney’s Office outline the chronology: the victim went missing on Nov.

Prosecutors say the conspirators first targeted the mechanic months earlier and that an initial attempt involved exchanged gunfire but no death. In November, the man was allegedly lured to a business, ambushed, shot, and later transported and dumped in the Everglades.

Law enforcement action and allegations are drawn from the federal case: the U.S. Attorney’s Office reported that the convicted defendant was found guilty on counts including murder-for-hire conspiracy, murder-for-hire, stalking resulting in death, and multiple firearms offenses.

Prosecutors allege co-conspirators paid a gunman, helped conceal the death, and used items such as a yard waste cart after the murder; another co-defendant previously pleaded guilty and received a life sentence, and a third co-defendant has not yet been tried.

What is documented in court records are the convictions, the recovery of the victim’s body with a gunshot wound to the head, and the pending sentencing exposure: the convicted defendant faces up to life in prison on most counts and a separate maximum of 20 years on one firearms count.

Allegations about motives and debts are attributed to the charging affidavit and the U.S. Attorney’s Office; those claims remain part of the prosecutorial record pending sentencing or additional trials.

All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
