Man shot during altercation at Fort Lauderdale residence; transported to Broward Health

Broward County, Florida — Fort Lauderdale police are investigating a shooting that left a man seriously wounded Thursday evening along the Northwest 19th Avenue.

Officers responded at about 6 p.m. after receiving reports of a person who had been shot and found an adult male with a gunshot wound to the upper torso. He was transported as a trauma alert to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment.

Investigators say the shooting occurred during a fight inside a residence on the block. That account comes from responding officers, who reported finding the injured man at the scene and later relayed that the injury happened amid an altercation indoors.

Police indicated they believed the incident was isolated and that there was no known threat to the public. At the time officers issued their statement, no arrests had been made.

Fort Lauderdale police have an active and ongoing investigation into the circumstances that led to the shooting; the agency has not released additional details about suspects, the sequence of events inside the home, or any charges.

The facts reported by law enforcement are limited to the shooting location, the victim’s transport to a Broward County trauma center, the agency’s belief the incident was isolated, and the status of the investigation as active and ongoing.

All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
