A Waco jury sentenced 25-year-old Brendon Le Osha Riggs to 60 years in prison in a courtroom decision handed down in Waco, McLennan County. The sentence follows a Sept. 25, 2020, drug-related robbery that resulted in the death of a 21-year-old Texas State Technical College student.

Jurors in the 54th State District Court first found Riggs guilty of aggravated robbery; they deliberated about 75 minutes on punishment after an earlier 40-minute verdict on guilt. Prosecutors presented testimony that Riggs and two others went to the victim’s home intending to take drugs and firearms.

McLennan County authorities charged Riggs with aggravated robbery in 2024; one co-defendant received immunity for testimony and another pleaded guilty and is serving 10 years. Riggs will receive credit for more than 1,100 days already spent in jail and must serve at least 30 years before parole eligibility.

The case record shows the aggravated robbery conviction and the imposed fine of $1,000; Riggs’ attorney has filed notice of appeal.

All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
