Man arrested in northwest Miami-Dade hit-and-run that died a chld, deputies say
An arrest has been made in a northwest Miami-Dade hit-and-run that left a 10-year-old girl dead and her 15-year-old brother critically injured, deputies say. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) identified the suspect as a 33-year-old man and allege the crash occurred on Sept. an undisclosed area and Seventh Avenue as the siblings rode an electric bicycle. According to the sheriff’s office, the driver left the scene immediately after the collision. Investigators reviewed surveillance video that they say shows the suspect stopping nearby, inspecting damage to the passenger side of a Nissan Versa, then driving away. Deputies say the next day he was recorded at an auto parts yard buying two passenger-side doors and a mirror; the replacement parts were a different color, the arrest report states. Investigators also cite cellphone location records they say placed the suspect at the auto parts yard and later show him taking a Brightline train from Miami to Orlando. A witness interviewed by deputies told them he helped transport the replacement doors and later informed the suspect that the chld had died; the report says the suspect replied, “I know. I’m going to hire an attorney.” MDSO reports the suspect surrendered to deputies and was booked at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Jail records list felony counts of leaving the scene of a crash involving death, leaving the scene involving serious bodily injury, and tampering with physical evidence; bond was listed as to be set. The sheriff’s office is the source of the allegations and the documented investigative actions; reported medical outcomes and legal charges are reflected in the arrest and jail records cited by deputies. All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
