Man arrested after sister's bank visit uncovers alleged $86K theft from elderly Hialeah parents

A Hialeah man was taken into custody after investigators say he withdrew more than $86,000 from his elderly parents' accounts. Authorities allege $34,000 was taken in January by check listed as a gift to the son's chld’s company, So Far LLC, and an additional $52,000 was removed the following month via a cashier's check. The case surfaced when the couple’s daughter accompanied them to the bank and discovered the bulk of their life savings missing; the son, 67-year-old Rafael Barcelo, is jailed and will face a bond hearing. The arrest is the 12th made by Miami-Dade’s Elder and Vulnerable Adult Exploitation Unit and Task Force; officials highlighted statewide concerns about senior financial exploitation and noted more than 100,000 seniors in the county live alone. All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
