Man arrested after Elm Mott woman alleges choking and attempted s3xual assault
McLennan County sheriff’s deputies responded to Elm Mott after a woman reported being pulled from a vehicle and assaulted on the night of Sept. 22. Deputies were dispatched around 10:30 p.m. to the Ross Road following the report of a s3xual assault and on-scene witnesses flagging down help.
According to the arrest affidavit, the woman told deputies the suspect pulled her out of the car by her neck, forced her to the ground, struck her with an open hand and a closed fist, and pinned her by the neck with both hands while lifting her dress. She reported no penetration and rated her pain as "10" on a 1-to-10 scale.
Sheriff’s deputies detained Shaylan Patel at the scene, read him his Miranda rights, and say he declined to speak with investigators. Patel was booked into the McLennan County Jail and faces charges including third-degree felony assault by strangulation/impeding breath and indecent assault; he is currently out on bond.
