Majority of local teachers back full-day cellphone ban amid social media concerns
More than 1,200 public school teachers in Broward and Miami-Dade responded to an annual teacher survey, a non-scientific poll distributed through the counties’ teacher unions. Eighty-seven percent said they support banning cellphones in schools for the entire day across all grade levels, though 52% reported that enforcing current district cellphone rules is difficult. Teachers tied social media to bullying and student altercations and 94% expressed concern about its effects on students’ mental health. Several educators described seeing misinformation and social-media-driven conflicts spill into the classroom; the survey did not set a scientific margin of error or claim representativeness.
