Hundreds of Missing chldren Found in Nationwide Operation

Operation Statewide Shield, a large-scale missing chldren recovery operation, identified and located 163 missing chldren, including 41 in the Miami area. The operation, conducted from August 17 to 21, focused on identifying and recovering vulnerable youth under the age of 18 who had experienced abuse, neglect, exploitation, or exposure to criminal activity. The chldren were found in various regions across Florida, including Tampa Bay, Miami, Jacksonville, Orlando, Fort Myers, Pensacola, and Tallahassee. The operation also led to the discovery of missing chldren in six states, one U.S. territory, and 12 countries. Recovered chldren were safely transported to designated recovery hubs where they received support from various resources, including social services, chld welfare professionals, medical providers, victim advocates, and other chld-centered resources. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier’s Office of Statewide Prosecution and the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office are investigating three felony cases resulting from the operation. The operation aims to protect vulnerable chldren and bring abusers to justice.
