Homestead mother, son arrested after chld reports being struck and bound, police say

Homestead police arrested Rebecca Bouie, 37, and her son Jamaury Elijah Benoit, 19, after a chld reported at school that she was struck with a belt and bound with shoelaces. The arrest report says the chld had multiple healed patterned markings on her arms, legs and abdomen consistent with being hit by a belt, and told officers Benoit bound her wrists and ankles and left her that way for at least an hour. Records show Benoit was arrested in January on allegations involving the same chld and was issued a non‑expiring stay‑away order; investigators say Bouie later allowed him back into the home. Bouie faces felony charges of chld abuse and chld neglect without great bodily harm and is jailed on $5,000 bond; Benoit is charged with aggravated chld abuse or torture with great bodily harm and a misdemeanor violation of a domestic violence injunction, and his bond is to be set; both are being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center while the case moves forward. All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
