Horry County police say a suspicious item located near a North Myrtle Beach beach access was a homemade b0mb. The North Myrtle Beach Police Department initially responded to reports of the item near the 12th Avenue North beach access; the Horry County b0mb Squad later examined and disposed of the device near International Drive, according to statements from the agencies.

Authorities say the North Myrtle Beach department handled the initial call and asked the public for help identifying activity in the area the day before the b0mb squad’s work. Investigators requested witnesses who were near the showers and restrooms by the 12th Avenue North and Ocean Boulevard beach access between 3 and 7 p.m. on the prior Sunday to come forward, and they are seeking photographs, video, or other information from that time frame.

Horry County police spokesperson Ashley Boles confirmed the item was a homemade b0mb but declined to release further details. A records custodian indicated Horry County Police Department does not have the initial incident report because the North Myrtle Beach Police Department was the responding agency. North Myrtle Beach Police Department spokesperson Desirae Gostlin said her office could address the original call but not the b0mb squad’s discovery.

At this time investigators are soliciting public assistance; the departments have not released additional investigative findings or legal outcomes.
