Home invasion with shots fired in Venice leads to two arrests, Sarasota County agencies assist

Venice police say a reported home invasion with shots fired occurred off Laurel Road East in Venice at about 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23. Officers responded to the residence after the shooting was reported and found that two male subjects had fled the property on foot.

According to the Venice Police Department, the two suspects ran from the scene and were tracked and apprehended by Venice officers with assistance from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit. Both subjects were arrested at the scene and are being booked into the Sarasota County Jail.

The homeowner confirmed to responding officers that no one at the residence was struck by gunfire. The homeowner also reported that a firearm had been taken from inside the home during the incident; Venice police reported that K-9 Palmer later recovered that firearm.

Venice police characterize this as an active investigation. The facts reported by the agency are: a home invasion with gunfire was reported, two males fled and were taken into custody with K-9 assistance from the county sheriff’s unit, a firearm was recovered, and the arrest and booking into the county jail have occurred. Additional details remain under investigation and will be released by law enforcement when available.

All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
